Pithru Yajnam
Pitru Karma Training Programme
Among the Panchamaha Yajnas prescribed in the Sanatana Dharma tradition, Pithru Yajnam occupies a special place. It represents our gratitude, responsibility, and sacred connection to our ancestors and departed family members. Through Bali, Tarpana, and related karmas, householders honour their forefathers, seek their blessings, and fulfil an important Dharmic obligation.
According to the Vedic and Puranic traditions, the journey of the soul continues beyond physical death. The performance of Pithru Karmas is considered an important support for departed souls in their onward journey, while also strengthening the spiritual bond between generations. These karmas are performed not merely as rituals, but as acts of remembrance, gratitude, and responsibility towards those from whom we have received life, lineage, and blessings.
Traditional texts further explain that the proper performance of ancestral rites contributes to family harmony, prosperity, health, spiritual well-being, and the removal of obstacles. Neglect of ancestral obligations is often associated in Jyotisha and Dharma Shastra literature with conditions commonly referred to as Pithru Dosha, Badha Doshas, and other ancestral afflictions that may manifest as recurring obstacles, delays, family disturbances, or unexplained challenges in life.
While many devotees visit temples and sacred centers to perform these rituals, the Grihastha tradition places significant importance on performing ancestral rites within one's own home. Unfortunately, many people today have not had the opportunity to learn the correct procedures and therefore depend entirely on external arrangements.
Srilalitavidyapitham offers a structured online training programme to help sincere seekers understand the deeper significance of Pithru Karmas and learn to perform them correctly at home with confidence, devotion, and understanding.
Over the past year, more than 100 families have successfully learned and performed these karmas in their own homes after completing this programme.
